- Registered Hamburg residents can book rides in the all-electric, self-driving ID. Buzz via the MOIA app and, soon, via the hvv switch app
- ALIKE brings autonomous mobility to passengers in Hamburg's urban traffic for the first time
- Next milestone for MOIA as a technology provider of market-ready autonomous mobility solutions made in Europe
Hamburg, 15 july 2026 – MOIA is taking the next step toward large-scale deployment of autonomous mobility in Hamburg: Starting today, selected pre-registered Hamburg residents will be able to book rides in the all-electric, self-driving ID. Buzz via the MOIA app. The booking option will also be available in the hvv switch app soon. As part of the ALIKE project, shared autonomous mobility will become a reality for people in Hamburg.
The launch in Hamburg marks an important milestone on the path toward autonomous mobility solutions made in Europe. MOIA is developing a technology platform for autonomous mobility services built to European standards that will enable public and private fleet operators to deploy autonomous services at scale. The platform integrates vehicles, Mobileye's self-driving system, a Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) software platform, as well as operator training and enablement. The experience gained in Hamburg provides an important foundation for MOIA to further develop this platform and gradually bring it to additional markets as a technology provider.
“Autonomous driving has the potential to make a tangible contribution to improving quality of life for everyone. Here in Hamburg, that vision is becoming a reality step by step. With the mobility project ALIKE, passengers can now experience first-hand how autonomous mobility services can meaningfully complement public transport. It offers people a modern, comfortable, and reliable mobility option. As the Federal Ministry for Transport, we are committed to supporting projects like this because they provide valuable insights that can help shape the future of mobility in cities and regions across Germany,” says Patrick Schnieder, Federal Minister for Transport.
“Hamburg is the ideal place for pioneering mobility solutions. With our innovative transport infrastructure, we want to continue leading the way in autonomous driving and bring these vehicles onto our streets. With ALIKE, autonomous ridepooling is now taking a major step forward—from testing under real-world conditions to becoming part of everyday life for people in Hamburg. Our goal is a modern, reliable, and well-connected public transport system that makes meaningful use of new technologies,” says Anjes Tjarks, Hamburg Senator for Transport and Mobility Transition.
"Our first passengers are now experiencing autonomous mobility in Hamburg's urban traffic for the first time. For MOIA, this marks an important milestone in the development of our European solution. The insights we gain from real-world operations will help us further refine our technology and service and prepare them for deployment in additional markets. Hamburg plays a central role in this journey: it is here that we are demonstrating how autonomous mobility can be introduced step by step into everyday use," says Sascha Meyer, CEO of MOIA.
As with MOIA's existing ride-pooling service, passengers travelling in the same direction share a ride. Pick-up and drop-off take place at designated virtual stops. At launch, the operating area covers parts of Winterhude, Barmbek, and Wandsbek. During the pilot phase, rides will be free of charge and accompanied by a trained safety operator. Up to ten autonomous MOIA vehicles will be deployed as part of the project.
In addition to Hamburg, MOIA is also active at locations across Germany, Norway, and the United States, where it is preparing further passenger pilot operations. These diverse operating environments help validate and refine MOIA's solution under real-world conditions on the path to commercial deployment.
ALIKE is a Hamburg-based pilot project for testing autonomous on-demand mobility services and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Transport. The project explores how autonomous mobility services can complement buses and trains in the future. Under the overall leadership of HOCHBAHN, MOIA, HOLON, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and Hamburg’s Ministry for Transport and Mobility Transition are jointly responsible for implementing and scientifically evaluating the project. As part of ALIKE, two integrated autonomous on-demand services are being developed. Following MOIA’s successful achievement of this latest milestone, the next phase will see HOCHBAHN begin operating autonomous HOLON vehicles.
