MOIA: From Mobility Service to Tech Provider

Over the past few years, MOIA has evolved from a mobility service into a tech provider. As a technology company, we offer cities and transport operators a turnkey end-to-end solution for running autonomous ridepooling services.

Over the past few years, MOIA has evolved from a mobility service into a tech provider. At the core of our new strategic direction as a tech provider is our turnkey solution, enabling mobility operators to integrate autonomous on-demand services into their offerings.

From Mobility Service to Tech Provider

Our Experience as the Foundation

Drawing on our many years of experience in developing, implementing, and analyzing mobility solutions, we provide public and private mobility operators with a turnkey product that allows them to establish autonomous services quickly, safely, and at scale. Our turnkey solution goes beyond the autonomous vehicle itself, comprising a software ecosystem that includes fleet and passenger management, along with services that enable mobility providers to operate autonomous on-demand services.

As one of the pioneers in Germany, MOIA has proven that shared mobility can be implemented intelligently, sustainably, and efficiently. In Hamburg alone, more than twelve million passengers have used our all-electric on-demand ridepooling service since our launch in 2019. Hamburg will remain the central testing ground for autonomous driving in the future. Our operational business there provides the foundation for continuously developing and optimizing our complete solution for autonomous mobility.

For the Mobility of Tomorrow

To prepare for the mobility needs of tomorrow, we have evolved from a mobility service into a tech provider. We are convinced that autonomous driving can contribute to improving everyday mobility and quality of life for everyone. The mobility transition requires flexible services that are available around the clock, can dynamically adapt to demand peaks, and make traffic more climate and resource-friendly. At the same time, labor shortages in public transit and supply gaps in rural areas add further pressure to act.

We are convinced that autonomous driving can contribute to improving everyday mobility and quality of life for everyone.

For us, it’s clear that autonomous ridepooling is a solution to these challenges. By deploying autonomous fleets, cities can reduce traffic volumes, cut emissions, and improve connectivity to underserved areas. In our Germany simulation, a model calculation of the effects of large-scale ridepooling across the country, we found that sustainable modes of transport – such as public transport, cycling, walking, and ridepooling – would increase by 40%. This means more trips would be taken using sustainable modes and fewer with private cars. According to the analysis, widespread adoption of autonomous ridepooling could reduce the total number of car trips by 10% per year. Additionally, up to five billion tons of CO₂ could be avoided while improving accessibility in both urban and rural areas.

MOIA as a tech provider: autonomous mobility for cities and transport operators

MOIA remains a mobility company but with a clear technology focus: developing and building a safe and scalable end-to-end solution that enables cities and transport operators worldwide to establish their own autonomous ridepooling services. Our autonomous mobility solution can sustainably complement existing public transport in the long term, since autonomous vehicles can be deployed dynamically and on demand, even in areas where traditional public transport services are not economically viable. Autonomous fleets also reduce dependency on drivers, enabling more stable operations. Autonomous vehicles can be deployed flexibly and are always available.

MOIA’s complete solution for autonomous ridepooling in detail

As a tech provider, MOIA offers a turnkey, scalable, and integrable complete solution for autonomous mobility. The core of our offering, our turnkey solution, consists of three building blocks:

  • Autonomous Vehicle:
As a fully autonomous vehicle, we offer Volkswagen’s first production-ready, fully autonomous model: the VW
ID. Buzz AD. Equipped with 13 cameras, nine LiDAR scanners, and five radar sensors, the ID. Buzz AD creates a complete, redundant view of its surroundings. Redundant braking, steering, and power systems provide added safety.
  • AD MaaS Ecosystem Platform:
We combine state-of-the-art AI technology and digital infrastructure for real-time fleet control, automatic passenger management, and compliance with the highest safety and regulatory requirements for SAE Level 4 vehicles. With our third-party connector, autonomous services can be integrated into existing booking and operating systems. Additionally, the MOIA white-label app serves as a customizable solution tailored to each partner’s brand and corporate identity. Our turnkey solution also provides cities and operators with powerful analysis and planning tools for efficient processes, competitive pricing, and excellent service quality.
  • Operator Enablement:
From the concept stage through stable operations, we support operators with our expertise. This includes tailored consulting on infrastructure, training and certification of staff, workshops with authorities and stakeholders, maintenance and spare parts, as well as remote support and monitoring. This includes remote supervision of autonomous vehicles, fleet management, and centralized incident management.

“With our turnkey solution, we empower cities and operators to effectively deploy autonomous mobility services. In this way, we create flexible, convenient, and user-centered mobility – and are opening up new ways for the mobility of the future with MOIA”, says Sascha Meyer, CEO of MOIA.
