Join us as an Android Developer (m/f/d) in our Street Routing Team on a shared journey that matters!

Behind the scenes of our well-known vehicles, MOIA GmbH develops the technical products underlying MOIA. MOIA gets things moving. On a shared journey – towards an easier, smarter, and more meaningful future.

What you will do

Our Street Routing team has the goal to find the best routes and shortest ETAs for a shared journey through the city. This includes providing the navigation solution used in our own fleet of custom made vehicles.

  • You will work in a bottom-up managed, autonomous, cross-functional team that will continuously test new ideas and evaluate their potential.
  • You and your team will work like a startup and take ownership of the whole development cycle - from ideation over design to implementation, quality assurance and maintenance.
  • Brainstorm and find solutions together with our geospatial engineers and apply them to our Navigation UI.
  • Build solutions that integrate deeply with our own fleet of vehicles.
  • Our Navigation app is going to be used by thousands of drivers in a stressful and hectic environment where every second counts. Therefore it needs to be rock stable, always up to date and safe and intuitive to use in every situation.
  • The software you will be working on is an integral part of our ride-sharing solutions and defines our quality of service.
What will help you to fulfil your role

So when Marshmallow, Oreo, Pie & Quark are not just sweets for you, but great new treats of your past then check these things as well, you:

  • know your Git and Gradle
  • speak English and Kotlin
  • have experience or strong interest to learn Map SDKs, Geospatial problems, Automotive UI and a deep integration with vehicle APIs
  • have a degree in Computer Science and a few years of programming experience
  • don’t fear Foldables (and can tell us why and what they even are)
  • like to interact with fellow Developers, Product Owners, Designers and other Stakeholders
  • call the Android SDK your home, but fly out on a composable Jetpack
  • like to share your knowledge (Android Meetups or Droidcons anyone?)
  • care about a well maintained, scalable and tested codebase
  • have a certain eye for product- and UI-quality as well

We encourage you to apply even if your profile does not meet all of the requirements for the role yet. We embrace individual growth at MOIA.

About your team

Our Passenger Management team is responsible for the user experience inside autonomous driving vehicles and for providing the operator means to interact with the vehicle and passengers. We automate passenger-related routines in a world without a driver: How does a passenger authenticate herself in the vehicle without a driver? How to ensure a safe cabin at all times during the ride? Which content should be displayed at the vehicle screens to provide a safe and an informative user experience.

We built this not only for ourselves but also providing a passenger management platform to seamlessly integrate other ridesharing services to autonomous driving vehicles.

Backend Engineer (m/f/d) Street Routing Team

Hamburg

Join us as a Backend Engineer (m/f/d) in the Street Routing Team on a shared journey that matters!

Behind the scenes of our well-known vehicles, MOIA GmbH develops the technical products underlying MOIA. Our team of more than 200 employees develops an on-demand carpooling service in the form of an end-to-end integrated product, from hub, fleet, and driver management to passenger and B2B solutions. At our offices in Berlin and Hamburg, international teams of developers, engineers, designers, and strategists work on a shared mission. Simultaneously, we aspire to be a leading company in the fields of rethinking mobility and improving urban transportation by making it more relaxed, more affordable and an entirely positive experience for everyone.

MOIA gets things moving. On a shared journey – towards an easier, smarter, and more meaningful future.

About your team:

The street routing team is building an essential part of MOIA's business model. The system helps us safely guide our ever-growing fleet of vehicles through cities and predict accurate ETAs for our customers. By identifying high demand areas inside cities, we want to navigate our fleet most efficiently such that vehicles carrying only a single passenger are avoided and the congestion in cities is reduced.

What you will do
  • You and your team build and maintain a software system to provide travel times and directions for our vehicle fleet. The travel times directly influence the assignment of customers to vehicles and yield ETAs for our customers. Hence, high accuracy is mandatory and monitoring and improving it is your daily business
  • In other scenarios, only approximate travel times are required but at a high volume. You will actively participate to develop data structures that support approximate travel time queries and continuously improve the quality and the required costs to build and maintain such a data structure
  • To reach these targets jointly, you become part of a cross-functional team comprising software engineers with different areas of expertise such as routing algorithms, geospatial computation and data analysis, microservice architecture in distributed systems, as well as Android Development
What will help you to fulfill your role
  • Professional experience in developing highly efficient applications in Golang and willing to touch other languages if the task requires it (e.g., Kotlin, Python, TypeScript)
  • Having deep experience in developing and designing software for microservice-based environments. Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS managed services for deployments as well as Protobuf, REST, and gRPC for interservice communication is a plus
  • Be ready to live and breathe DevOps and believe in automated testing, infrastructure as code, and continuous deployment
  • An understanding of the complexity of algorithms and the desire to dig deep in order to squeeze the last bit of performance out of our systems
  • Strong interest in working with geospatial data (maps, routes, GPS traces), routing algorithms and routing APIs. Previous experience in this area is beneficial, but not mandatory
  • You enjoy collaborating and sharing knowledge with colleagues (e.g. pair coding)

We encourage you to apply even if your profile does not meet all of the requirements for the role yet. We embrace individual growth at MOIA.
